Sketch 78

This 12 photo sketch manages to have lots of the circles and also get lots of photos on display!

Left side
Right side

The layout has 16 photos.  It uses 5 patterned paper and 1 solid.  As I have an issue with empty space, I added the ribbons to the right-side top circle.

This second layout is digital, created from the templates above.  It uses 14 photos, 3 patterned papers, and 2 solids.

This 7 photo sketch isn’t very intricate, and I think you may be able to do it quickly.  No promises, though!

The layout was fun to create, mostly because I love these pictures of my grand-puppy.  I made one significant change to the sketch, in that I added 5 (five) 2×2″ photos on the right side.  I used 5 patterned papers and no solids.

This 12 photo sketch is very versatile.  Don’t have 12 photos?  Take out some of the small 2x2s on the left side and use embellishments instead, or place larger photos there instead.  Want a larger title?  Remove the lower left photos altogether!  Don’t like to journal?  Stick another photo there instead!  All sketches are just suggestions, so don’t feel locked into creating it just like you see it.

As you can see from the layout, I certainly don’t follow the sketch exactly. I’d had those male/female chipboard accents for awhile and wasn’t sure how I was going to use them, but they were perfect for this layout!  And over on the journaling block, I included both journaling and a photo!  This layout uses just 7 photos, along with 6 patterned papers and 1 solid.

This 12 photo sketch would be perfect if you have scraps left from another layout, since the photos cover most of the layout.  It is also an easy one for using fewer photos than called for, or for doing very little cropping of your 4×6 photos.

The layout here is the sketch, exactly.  There are 3 patterns and 3 solids.

Sketch 68
This 18 photo sketch is not something you may need often, but when you do…  The 3 photos that are the focus of the left page could easily be replaced with a single large photo, or 2 photos.  Matting them on the title block is what helps them be the focus.

The layout uses just 3 patterns and 3 solids.  It would be easy to create from  scraps of patterns, if you have some to use up from another layout.

Sketch 61This 12 photo sketch makes good use of the photo-collage technique.  The title is on a 4 inch circle.

The layout almost doubles the number of photos on the sketch, using 21.  The photos on the bottom of the left page are either 1.5 inch square or 1.5 x 3 inch, created with a photo-editing program.  And yes, I know it is a very busy layout with so many busy patterns… but they are also very busy kittens!  There are 4 patterns and 2 solids, from the BoBunny Mango Luau collection.

Sketch 60This 18 photo sketch is all about telling the story, using as many photos as possible, without being too cluttered or completely covering up your pretty paper.

The layout uses 20 photos, 4 patterns, and 2 solids.  The papers are from Scenic Route, but as they are going out of business, I can’t link you to them.

Sketch 58
Another 13 photo sketch, and more circles!  The smaller circles 4 inches, while the large half-circle is a 12 inch.  You can use a compass, a template, or even plates and pots to draw your circles, or print them from the computer onto your patterned paper.

The layout uses 12 photos, replacing a photo spot with a pre-printed quote.  The papers are from the BasicGrey Archaic collection. There are 3 patterns and 3 solids used here.

Sketch 57
Lots of photos on this sketch… 13 to be exact!  You could use more, or less, depending on how you crop them.

This layout actually uses 23 photos, because one of the original spaces is used by a photo-editing program created photo collage (the fireworks).  The 3 patterned papers and 2 solids are BasicGrey Boxer.  I know it looks like more, but I really did only use 3!  The stripes were such that I was able to cut them into several pieces and make it look like I had more papers than I really did.  The original sketch calls for 4 patterns.

Sketch 51

Sketch51_sspThis 17 (that’s right, 17!) photo sketch is one of my personal favorites. On the left side, along with an uncropped & matted 4×6, there are 12 two-inch squares.  If you have basic knowledge of a photo-editing program, you can print those 12 squares all together on just two 4×6 canvases.  (Of course, you can also crop 4×6 photos down to size, as most of us are used to doing.) This sketch also shows where you could place embellishments such as brads or rick-rack.  The smaller circles (brads or paper punches) are an important design elements that help balance the layout.

This layout focuses on faces, but could be used for anything.  It would be great for a “through-the-years” type of layout… in fact, I may just have to do that myself!  There are 4 patterns and 4 solids used here.Thisface_web_2

Sketch 47

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Sspsketch47 This 14 photo sketch was inspired by two different layouts, one done by my friend Christine (left side), the other by my friend Robin (right side).

In the layouts, you can see that they both used mostly the same photos and papers, with similar but different results. They both used parts of a brochure and postcards in place of some photos.

Christine’s layout uses 10 photos with 3 patterned papers and 2 solid papers.Web_art_christine

Robin’s layout uses 14 photos, 3 patterned papers and 4 solid papers. Web_art_robin

Sketch 44

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Sspsketch44This 12 photo sketch is fairly simple.  The repeating squares are a strong design element.  The double mats on the photos are a part of the sketch, and help pull the design together, while also helping the eye focus on the photos.

This layout uses 8 photos, but holds true to the sketch by filling in the other squares with another patterned paper. The journaling takes the place of the smallest photo on the left page. This layout uses 4 patterns and 3 solids.

Sketch 41

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Sketch41This 12 photo sketch is perfect for those times when you need to get a bunch of photos onto one layout, without sacrificing too much size. The photo block on the right side could easily be a single, larger photo, if you wanted it to be.  Or the photo strip at the bottom left could be smaller, thinner photos. Don’t be afraid to play around with this!

This layout is 11 photos, because I chose to use an embellishment in place of one of the photos.  There are 4 patterns and 4 solids used here.

Sketch 37

Sspsketch37This 12 photo sketch came from one of my fastest layouts ever. I hope it works just as fast for you!

This layout is only 10 photos, since I used one of the circles for journaling. You’ll also notice that the other small circle is not a photo, but a patch I bought at the aquarium.  I didn’t measure it at the time, but thought it was about 3 inches.  Since I use that size so much, I must have an eye for it, because that is exactly what the patch size was!  There are 3 patterns and 3 solids used here.

This 17 photo sketch shows that it is possible to make use of several patterned papers and embellishments, and yet still get lots of photos on a layout.  The key when you are taking the photographs is to not zoom in on your subject in every picture.  Make your zoomed shots count!

The sketch was created from Robin S’s layout here. She used 4 patterns and 3 solids, plus lots of fun embellishments!  And can I just say that I love that she used a paper line that has alot of pink in it for a fishing layout that is male-dominated?
