Here’s Robin’s layout.  She used more than 5 patterned papers, but since the set was double-sided, she was able to get the most bang-for-her buck based on how she used them.  Popping some of the circles up is an important part of the design.

But wait, there’s more!  You will notice that the right side of the Robin’s layout really differs somewhat from the sketch.  That’s because the sketch is created from already-created layouts, and the right side is from my scraplift of Robin’s layout.  The papers are the same, the general idea is the same, but you can see how I made it my own.  Notice I didn’t use as many little circles, and my flourishes are different… and that’s okay!

After creating the layout above, I was working in a different album, and decided to use the sketch again (yes, I use & re-use my own sketches!)  Even fewer little circles, but it all still works.  (Just a note, I discovered the fun of making my own patterned paper on this layout, as I needed another pattern.  So I foam stamped the yellow cardstock and voila!)

This layout uses 9 photos, arranged just a little differently, but still recognizable as the sketch.  There are 5 patterns and 0 solids.

I created this 8 photo layout before the sketch, and it is one of my personal all-time favorites. I used papers from K & Company’s Urban Rhapsody collection.  I think there are 9 different patterns here, but that is only because the paper is double sided (I do try to limit myself to no more than 5 patterns, when I buy paper!)

The layout only uses 6 photos, to allow more room for journaling.  And instead of a large photo on the right, I used Tim Holtz Grungeboard Numbers (which I love!)  I used 3 patterned papers and 3 solids.

This 8 photo sketch is simple in it’s design, both in the arrangement of the photos and in the layering of the papers. If you are new to using sketches, this is a good one to start with.

This layout is almost exactly like the sketch. It uses 4 patterns and 2 solids.  The papers are from the “Storytime” line by Cosmo Cricket.

The layout that this sketch is based on uses only 9 photos, because I used more and larger embellishments, and included journaling.

The layout below uses 7 photos, because one of the photo spots was used for journaling and another spot was used for a portion of the brochure that went along with these photos. The photos on the right side were also rearranged a little, to accommodate the embellishments I wanted to use. The layout uses 5 patterns and 2 solids.

This 9 photo sketch is another with my favorite things… circles!  I really try not to use them all the time, but am always looking for new ways to do sneak them in. The 4 photo block on the left balances the large background circle on the right.  Either side could hold it’s own as a single page layout, if you’re into that sort of thing.

In the layout I only used 7 photos, replacing one with a journaling block and another with a favorite of mine… a flower embellishment.  There are 4 patterns and 3 solids in this layout.  (And since so many have asked… the pictures were taken at sunset on Asilomar Beach in northern California, with a Canon DRebel.)

This 9 photo sketch is a first for me.  It is the first time I’ve
created a sketch without having already created the layout.

Here is the layout I ended up creating from the sketch idea.  As you can see, the only thing that really looks like the sketch is the background papers.  That’s what happens when I create a layout from a sketch instead of vice versa… the sketch ends up being inspiration for a layout that may barely resemble the sketch itself!
